The Ting-a-Ling
Youth Group was founded on the streets of inner-city Birmingham by
Kirk Jackson in 1993. Since then its core activity has been
providing positive experiences to young people who are
disadvantaged/underprivileged. The club caters for young people
throughout the inner-city although it is centred around Newtown,
South Aston and neighbouring districts.
Over the past years Ting-a-Ling has been going into schools to
reflect its intension to go beyond recreational provision, to
encourage self help within its members. To this end the project
offers advice and information which allow and encourage young people
to help themselves more effectively. Through its work Ting-a-Ling has
developed projects specifically to meet young peoples needs.
For example, we have been working to help 16-26 year olds into
further education training as many members of this age group did not
complete school and are finding it difficult to gain employment.
